Payroll Period: April 2026

OBJECTIVE

Your Consulting Ltd has completed its system setup and is now onboarding employees and processing payroll for April 2026. You will use the payroll and accounting modules in YAPBooks to set up employees, process statutory deductions, generate payslips and prepare the related payroll journal.

Now you will execute:

  • 👉 Set up employees
  • 👉 Configure salary components
  • 👉 Process monthly payroll
  • 👉 Calculate statutory deductions
  • 👉 Generate employee payslips
  • 👉 Prepare the payroll journal

👉 SCENARIO 1: SET UP EMPLOYEE — FINANCE MANAGER

Employee: Lillian Adu

Position: Finance Manager

Annual Salary Structure:

  • Basic Salary: ₦450,000
  • Housing Allowance: ₦300,000
  • Transport Allowance: ₦350,000

TASK:

  1. Create employee profile for Lillian Adu
  2. Enter her position as Finance Manager
  3. Set up the applicable basic salary and allowances
  4. Ensure the salary structure is configured for payroll processing

👉 SCENARIO 2: SET UP EMPLOYEE — FINANCE ASSISTANT

Employee: Bassey Ugwu

Position: Finance Assistant

Annual Salary Structure:

  • Basic Salary: ₦320,000
  • Housing Allowance: ₦140,000
  • Transport Allowance: ₦120,000

TASK:

  1. Create employee profile for Bassey Ugwu
  2. Enter his position as Finance Assistant
  3. Set up the applicable basic salary and allowances
  4. Ensure the salary structure is configured for payroll processing

👉 SCENARIO 3: CONFIGURE STATUTORY DEDUCTIONS

Company Policy: Your Consulting Ltd deducts applicable employee statutory contributions from payroll and accounts for the relevant employer obligations.

Applicable Deductions:

  • Pension
  • NHF
  • NSITF

TASK:

  1. Review the payroll deduction settings
  2. Configure the applicable Pension deduction
  3. Configure the applicable NHF deduction
  4. Configure NSITF according to the company's payroll setup
  5. Confirm that the deductions are linked to the appropriate payroll accounts

👉 SCENARIO 4: RUN MONTHLY PAYROLL

Payroll Month: April 2026

Employees: Lillian Adu and Bassey Ugwu

Important: Run payroll for April 2026 only. Do not process the annual salary figures as the payroll period.

TASK:

  1. Select April 2026 as the payroll period
  2. Run payroll for both employees
  3. Review gross salary and applicable deductions
  4. Review the resulting net pay for each employee
  5. Check the payroll summary before finalizing

👉 SCENARIO 5: REVIEW PAYROLL DEDUCTIONS & NET PAY

Objective: Before generating payslips, verify that the payroll calculations for both employees are complete and correctly reflect the company's configured deductions.

TASKS:

  1. Review Lillian Adu's gross pay
  2. Review Bassey Ugwu's gross pay
  3. Review Pension, NHF and NSITF deductions as applicable
  4. Confirm the net pay for each employee
  5. Identify and correct any payroll setup or calculation errors before generating payslips

👉 SCENARIO 6: GENERATE EMPLOYEE PAYSLIPS

Payroll Period: April 2026

TASK:

  2. Generate the April 2026 payslip for Bassey Ugwu
  3. Review the salary components, deductions and net pay displayed on each payslip
  4. Print or export both payslips
  5. Share the two payslips in the group

👉 SCENARIO 7: PREPARE THE PAYROLL JOURNAL

Payroll Period: April 2026

Purpose: Translate the completed payroll into the appropriate accounting entries for payroll expenses, employee deductions and related liabilities.

TASKS:

  1. Go to the Accounting module
  2. Open the Journal Entries sub-module
  3. Prepare the payroll journal for April 2026
  4. Select the appropriate salary expense accounts
  5. Select the appropriate payroll liability accounts for deductions
  6. Select the appropriate account for net salaries payable or the bank/cash account, depending on the company's payroll workflow
  7. Confirm that the total debits equal the total credits
LEARNING: Integrating payroll with the general ledger & Understanding how payroll transactions flow into financial statements

📊 FINAL TASK

Complete the April 2026 payroll process for both employees and submit the required payroll outputs.

SUBMISSION REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Set up both employees in YAPBooks.
  2. Run payroll for April 2026 only.
  3. Generate and print/export the payslip for Lillian Adu.
  4. Generate and print/export the payslip for Bassey Ugwu.
  5. Share both payslips in the group.
  6. Prepare the April payroll journal using the Journal Entries sub-module under the Accounting module.
  7. Review the journal to ensure that the debit and credit entries are balanced.
  8. DO NOT POST THE JOURNAL.
  9. Take a screenshot of the completed payroll journal and share it in the group.
